Just few weeks to election, Lagos state house of assembly has revealed why governor Ambode is about to be impeached.
according to details the governor has been accused of gross misconduct, misuse of budget and has been summoned to state house to explain his failures over submitting 2019 budget.
Report has it that Ambode sent the budget to the house in December but the lawmakers are angry because he didn't appear in the house but had to send someone and they are also angry that spending has commenced on 2019 budget by the executives without waiting for approval from the lawmakers.
speaker of the house, Obasa Mudashiru said,
"the attorney general, finance commissioner, and commissioner for budget and economic planing, that ought to have advised the governor did not do so.
"the most important thing is that he would let the people know that a budget yet to be approved is already spent
"we must give the executive a fair hearing to come and explain what happened
"the point has been made that there must be something before the house before you commence expenditure.
"we want to call the governor to come within a week and explain himself along with the relevant commissioners.
"we cant start gathering signatures for impeachment we need to exercise patience and wait till another time."
Mr Gbolahan Yishawu, chairman house committee on budget and economic planing, said;
"we had issues of virement and monies being spent without approval. we had cases of items that were not budgeted for being carried out, it shows the executive rewrite the budget at will.
"the constitution states that the state house of assembly must approve all the expenditures.
"we shall begin an impeachment process if the executive does not retrace its step", Yashiwu said.after several criticism of gross misconducts the law makers have advised Governor Ambode to resign or the house would begin an impeachment process against him. plenary has been adjourned till Feb. 4.
