MAN FOUND GUILTY OF RAPE AND MURDER OF THREE YEAR OLD GIRL

A South African man identified as Mortimer Saunders has been found guilty of the brutal rape and murder of 3 year old girl,  Courtney pieters. 

Saunder who was a tenant and a friend to Courtney's  dad, Aaron Fourie had his way with Courtney under the care of her six-year-old brother. 

Judge Pearl Mantame made the finding at about noon on Wednesday after delivering a lengthy judgement in the Cape Town high court.

Saunder confessed to killing Courtney who reside In Elsies river,  with ant poison and then had sexual intercourse with her dead body. 

She was murdered in May 2017 and her body was only found days later after a massive search.

Mantame rejected Mortimer's version of confession saying that he never raped her but only inserted his fingers after she had died. 

“The accused is not honest‚” said Mantame. “The fact that he said he inserted his fingers … is because he did not want to be convicted for rape”

Saunder expressed no remorse as he was convicted. In his plea explanation he said:
“I unlawfully and intentionally committed a sexual act with a corpse.”

The court has adjourned the case till December 4 for sentencing procedure.
