FUEL SCARCITY MAY BEGIN AS NUPENG BACKS NLC STRIKE

The Federal Government on Friday obtained an order from National industrial Court restraining the labour congress from embarking on strike.

After several meetings held by the 36 state governors concerning the minimum wages, which they agreed on N22,500 monthly salary, NLC has come to protest and disagree with it, NLC had suggested a N30,000 monthly salary for now and no going back.

Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers(NUPENG) has pledged it's loyalty to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NUC) and have decided to back up any decision NLC decides to take.

The NLC, Trade Union Congress and the United Labour Congress had however insisted on embarking on the strike, claiming that they have not been served with court processes.

Attempts to get through the president of NLC and TUC, Mr Ayuba Wabba and Mr Bobboi Kaigama, on Saturday proved abortive as they did not respond to calls made to their phones.

The National President of NUPENG, Prince Akporeha, said since his union is associated with NLC, they would comply fully with NLC directive.

When asked if NUPENG would join the looming strike he replied by asking,  "Are we not an affiliate of the NLC"? Is NUPENG on its own? Of course we are with the NLC".

When reminded about the directive given by the court to the union against the strike,  he said all they are waiting for is NLC directive.
He said when he tried reaching the senior staffs of NUPENG they didn't pick their calls nor responded to his messages.

The organized indefinite strike by the labour congress is set to hold November 6, 2018 until the federal government approve the N30,000 minimum wage.
