CROSS RIVER GOVERNMENT RESCUES THE OGOJA MAD COUPLE WITH THREE KIDS.
BY Prince EverestLast week two mad couple with 3 kids were found roaming around the street in Ogoja, Cross River State, Calabar. Eye witness reported that the couple and their 3 kids were mentally unstable but yet speak fluent English, their pictures spread across the media and it got the attention of the Cross River State Government who partnered with Federal Neuro psychiatric hospital, Calabar to rescue the family.
The couple whose name were discovered to be Mr. & Mrs. Ben Ogar popularly known as the "OGOJA mentally deranged couple has been rescued after an intense search by a team from the Cross River State Government and federal Neuro psychiatric hospital, Calabar.
According to Mrs. Ben Ogar they both lost their means of livelihood at same time six years ago while they were resident in Abuja with their two kids, the frustration and bitterness led to their mental disorder and they decided to stay in a shanty house rather than his father's house.
His family rescued his first set of kids from him when he started showing signs of his disorder, his six years of roaming the streets of Ogoja produced the three kids he was rescued with.
Mr Ben was confirmed to be the only one having the mental disorder, while is wife is only having the ' folie a deux' syndrome which can be described as shared phychosis as a result of delusional belief or hallucinations, which was brought about by her husband's ideation. The children who are almost ignorant of their fathers ideation are in very stable condition and are responding to treatment quite alright.
The Honorable commissioner for health, Dr. Inyang Asibong, said the mentally deranged family are in stable condition and are responding well to treatment. He also added that the family will be rehabilitated and restored and would begin to live and socialize normally with people as long as continuous medical care is given to them.
Meanwhile the Honorable commissioner for women Affairs in the state, Mrs. Stella Odey, emphasized that the family are being offered some psycho-social support in addition to the medical care already being provided. Her counterpart from ministry of sustainable development and social welfare, Mr. Oliver Orok, noted that the state Government already provided feeding and accommodation to the family with adequate medical care.
The permanent secretary of the state Ministry of Health, Dr. Joseph Bassey, asserted that the state Government are in partnership with Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital to ensure quick recovery and adequate medical attention.
